Creating a Tableau Dashboard Showing Sheet Music Sales

Executive Summary
In December 2023, I developed this Tableau dashboard to visualize my sheet music sales via arrangeme.com. I’ve been creating and selling sheet music there since April 2022, and every month since then I’ve sold at least one piece of music. I wanted to visualize where across the world I’ve sold music so far as well as see the pattern in sales over the nearly-two-year period.
Some takeaways were that the highest quantities sold in a month were 12 in September 2023 and 11 in November 2022. The lowest quantities sold were one song for the month in both April and May 2022. However, overall, there seems to be a general upward trend of sales, which makes sense since as the months go by, I publish more and more songs.
Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton and Metric tied with the most sales at 27 songs (or 20.77% of total sales) each (at $134.70 and $133, respectively, (and which is funny because both bands are actually helmed by the same person). The next highest in sales was Dan Gillespie Sells at 19 songs and $104.30, Cat Power at 16 songs and $82.70, and Michael Kiwanuka with 13 songs and $71.20.

Method
At arrangeme.com, it’s easy to download your up-to-date sales csv file. So far I’ve sold 130 pieces of music, and I did have to rename some of the song titles since the company entered them into the system incorrectly. I also added an “Artist” column since I’ve arranged multiple songs of some artists, and so I wanted to be able to use the artist names as a filtering option.
After the data was ready, I went to public.tableau.com, created a new visualization project, and connected the csv file. Please click on the link above to interact with the finalized sheets and dashboard.
Future Directions
I think it might be interesting to see the total sales in comparison to a) when I first published a song and b) how many of an artist’s songs there are. Because, for example, even though Michael Kiwanuka is only the fourth highest seller on my roster, I only published his song - the only one of his that I’ve done so far - in May 2023, whereas Emily Haines and Metric songs were added in April 2022, over a year earlier and of which there are many more songs.
